A finishing finish!!

Well I made a scarecrow that I'd finished ages ago into a standup. I made several mistakes along the way but it looks okay for me. My cording is a bit thin but after having my kitties help me as much as they did I'm lucky I got any cording at all. From the back my standup looks a bit lumpy too. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? I know there is a finishing book out on weighted standups, but I just cannot part with that much money.

A few folks have asked about the site which does the celtic lettering. Here it is -
I haven't done anything else on the stitching front. I got my frame for Faith so now I need to figure out what color to paint or stain it. I got a great deal on the frame from Framing For Yourself. http://www.framing4yourself.com/picture-frames/index.htm
As you've probably figured, I'm trying to hone my skills as a finisher for my projects. This will be a great savings and should be fun. My biggest issue to date is I've been afraid to try things as I don't want to ruin a piece that I spent so my time on. So, if I have a piece that I've spent years on and I don't feel my finishing is up to par, I'll wait for the Michael's 40% off coupons and take it in, but otherwise, my goal is to start doing some of my own finishing. I know I want to finish off Be Scary in a flat fold. I've seen some directions for this on line. I'm so much more c0mfortable with directions!!! Hopefully, next post I'll have some pictures of stitching. I sure want to get some of my current WIPS done, like the Palm. TTFN!

YOu did a great job with finishing. I find finishing is just a matter of practice. The first time you do a technique it may look okay but the more times you do it the better it looks.

As for lumpy ness you may want to try stuffing it tightly then before closing it up you can "shape it" and get those lumps out.

Hey there!

Many thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your lovely comment. The Scarecrow looks mighty fine and I think you've done a smashing job finishing it. Well done you for taking your stitching a step further. I'm very lazy - I take all my stitching to a framer that I've been going to for years. I've spent a lot of money and have often thought about how much I could save if I did it myself, but I haven't got the bottle! :)
